My Career

In the culmination of your McDaniel Commitment, you’ll use everything you’ve learned to prepare for your life after the Hill. During your junior or senior year, you will complete a one-credit course, My Career, designed to guide students through the next steps for professional success. In My Career, students plan for life beyond college, guided by purposeful coursework and with one-on-one coaching. They learn to write their best resumes, maximize online networking, and meet with alumni and other professionals as they prepare for their next steps after graduation.

Through the Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO), students access resources and acquire the skills they need to navigate their four years on the Hill and place them at an advantage for life after McDaniel. The one-on-one coaching helps students develop goals, engage in immersive experiences, and stand out when applying for jobs, post-graduate studies, as well as fellowships and scholarships.

Helping you become who you have always wanted to be.

Networking with professionals. Working in your field. All before you graduate.

Everything you do on the Hill has one ultimate aim: to prepare you for success. That’s why most McDaniel students complete at least one internship during their time on the Hill. Through the Center for Experience and Opportunity and our internship fairs, you can find opportunities that relate directly to your field of study or future vocation. More than part-time jobs, internships apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to the working world. You’ll network with professionals who are employed in your field of interest, and get a preview of what your future career is really like.

Dakota Durant

WBAL-TV

During his senior year, Communication and Cinema major Dakota Durant received word that his public service announcement was among the winning videos in a contest co-sponsored by McDaniel and WBAL-TV. The 30-second spot aired for several weeks and even landed Durant an internship at the NBC affiliate station.

Allison Parker

The National Aquarium

Biology major Allison Parker got her feet (and hands) wet as she learned about possible careers during her internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. There, she took special care of a giant Pacific octopus named Tallulah. She monitored water temperature and salinity, managed filters and pumps, and performed other critical tasks.

Alex Tolle

Maryland Ensemble Theatre

Alex Tolle landed an internship at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre in Frederick, putting her Theater Arts and Communication major to good practice. She helped with rehearsals, costumes, and stage management, all while learning and growing as a leader in arts advocacy. She later won a national award at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival arts leadership program, which included a cash prize and an eight-day summer residency at the Kennedy Center.
