Local Leader Program

McDaniel Local is a summertime, two-day, one night event that provides new students with an introduction to the campus and wider community. Local Leaders are a highly energetic, committed team who run these life-changing pre-orientations each June and July. They serve as mentors who positively impact and inspire our newest Green Terrors.

A month-long commitment, Local Leaders move onto campus for training a week before the first Local session and remain on campus throughout the weeks when Local sessions run.

Why apply to be a Local Leader?

Someone should apply to be a local leader because it is a great opportunity to learn more about campus and help ease the anxiety of new students. It is extremely rewarding to know that I was able to make this big change just a little bit easier for our new students!

Peer Mentor Program Peer Mentors serve as leaders during NSO (New Student Orientation) and throughout the FYS (First-Year Seminar).

The Peer Mentor Program consists of a team of student leaders who share a love of McDaniel College. A semester-long commitment, these dedicated, driven student leaders provide academic, personal, and social support for students transitioning to the McDaniel College community. They are called to inspire and excite new students.

There are three Peer Mentor positions: FYE Coordinator, Peer Mentor, and Transfer Peer Mentor.

Meet Three Peer Mentors on the Hill Green Terrors don’t let other Green Terrors go unsupported.

Of all the people you’ll meet in college, a peer mentor can best guide you through the real student experience. McDaniel’s peer mentors support you in your first year (and beyond) and during your First Year Seminar.

As current students, they can share advice ranging from when to use the STEM Center, the trendiest events, and just how does campus laundry work, again?

What did you gain from being a part of the Peer Mentor Program?

The peer mentor program gave me the opportunity to help a class of incoming freshman experience the best of McDaniel College.
