Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement

McDaniel’s Professional Licensure Disclosure

Federal regulation 34 CFR 668.14(b)(32) governing professional licensure/certification programs in the United States requires all academic programs designed to lead to professional licensure/certification to disclose whether they “Meet" or “Do Not Meet” the licensure/certification requirements of each state, territory, or district. Although McDaniel works diligently to verify licensure/certification requirements of other states, those requirements may change at any time without any structured notification. As a result, McDaniel encourages students who plan to seek licensure in a state other than Maryland to check with that state's licensing board to confirm licensing/certification requirements and inquire about any pending changes to the current requirements.

McDaniel also recommends that you contact our Professional Licensure Representative at gps@mcdaniel.edu to determine whether the program you are considering will meet educational requirements for licensure in your home state. You may also refer to the disclosures listed below or contact the appropriate state licensing board for your state for more information.

Criminal Background Information

Some states' laws require a criminal background check and may disqualify an individual from obtaining licensure if the individual has been convicted of certain crimes. If you have a criminal history, please check with the appropriate state licensing board where you wish to work for more information.

Current Students and Relocation

A student enrolled in any program at McDaniel College which is designed to lead to licensure/certification who relocates to another state should be aware of the licensure/certification requirements for that state. Students who relocate must notify the college and program of their new address prior to relocation by emailing the Professional Licensure Representative at gps@mcdaniel.edu

For any questions regarding professional licensure, please email gps@mcdaniel.edu

Accounting, BA

This program is designed to help prepare students to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Exam and/or obtain initial licensure as a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland. To sit for the CPA Exam in Maryland, a candidate is required to have successfully completed 120 credits toward an accounting degree. Many other states, however, require candidates to successfully complete 150 credits prior to sitting for the CPA Exam.

To obtain initial licensure as a CPA in Maryland and most other states, a candidate is required to have successfully completed 150 credits. For more information on Maryland state requirements in this field, visit https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpaapply.shtml

Degrees or Credits from Non-Regionally Accredited Institutions or Third Party Non-Educational Facilities/Businesses:  McDaniel may accept undergraduate degrees or transfer credit on a case-by-case basis from a non-regionally accredited institution that is accredited by a national accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or from third party non-educational facilities/business. The Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, however, may not accept such degrees or credit as meeting the education requirements to sit for the CPA Exam and/or to obtain initial licensure as a CPA in Maryland, including credits that were ACE-evaluated or accepted by another school or university. Contact the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy to learn more about  Maryland's education requirements for initial licensure and credits that may not be accepted by the Board. Licensing boards in other states may not accept such credit or degrees. Please contact the appropriate state board for more information.

Degrees or Credits from Institutions Outside of the United States:  McDaniel may accept undergraduate degrees or transfer credit on a case-by-case basis from institutions outside of the United States. The Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, however, may not accept such degrees or credit as meeting the education requirements to sit for the CPA Exam and/or to obtain initial licensure as a CPA in Maryland. Contact the  Maryland Board of Public Accountancy to determine how to seek evaluation of foreign transcripts. The Maryland Board of Public Accountancy only accepts evaluations of foreign transcripts from the  NASBA International Evaluation Service. Licensing boards in other states may not accept such credit or degrees. Please contact the appropriate state board for more information regarding evaluation of foreign transcripts.

Teaching, MS (Secondary)

This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a PK-12 & secondary teacher in a specified content area in the state of Maryland. Licensure in secondary education is specialized by content area, and each content area may have unique requirements such as specific exams.

Content areas offered in this program are as follows:

  • Grades 7-12
    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • English
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Social Studies
  • Pk-12
    • Art
    • Physical Education
    • Spanish

In order to be awarded the MS in Teaching degree, students will be required to take all Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) tests required for certification in the students’ respective content area and have scores reported to McDaniel College. Students should be aware that while McDaniel requires students to take all required tests which lead to Maryland certification in the students’ respective content area, MSDE requires passing scores in order to obtain licensure.

Please be advised that a Maryland educator license may be recognized through reciprocity in many other states. Please refer to information about the NASDTEC agreement for more information or email gps@mcdaniel.edu to inquire.
