Types of Financial Aid

There are two categories of financial aid for college: Gift Aid and Self Help Aid.: Gift Aid refers to funds given as a gift or scholarship that does not need to be paid back. This includes grants, scholarships, and other awards that are awarded based on merit or financial need. To apply for Gift Aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).; Self Help Aid consists of student loans and work study programs in which the student earns money through part-time employment.

McDaniel Scholarships: Considered "gift aid", McDaniel is pleased to award a variety of scholarships, including our distinctive Legacy Scholarships.
Visit Incentive Grant: The Visit Incentive Grant is a $4000 ($1000/year) grant for any student who visits campus before they are admitted.
Financial Support for Maryland Students: Students who are residents of the state of Maryland have some additional funding opportunities. Please note the March 1 deadlines associated with these programs.
Outside Scholarships: Scholarships that are awarded to a student by an organization other than McDaniel.
Need-Based Grants: Subject to change every year, need-based grants are available at the federal, state or institutional level.
Loans: Over 70% of college students use student loans to help fund their education. Parent PLUS Loans are also a popular way to resolve a balance.
Work Study Employment on Campus: Working on campus can be an attractive way to pay for day-to-day expenses.
Military & Veteran Benefits: Opportunities (including scholarships) for eligible students.
