Art Renkwitz '65 receives Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame Award
ART RENKWITZ RECEIVES GREEN TERROR SPORTS HALL OF FAME AWARD FROM McDANIEL COLLEGE

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Art Renkwitz of Cambridge, Md., is a recipient of the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award from McDaniel College. He is 1965 alumnus of the college.
Presented annually during McDaniel’s Homecoming, the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award is presented to a graduate and former athlete who has performed outstandingly as an undergraduate athlete and who has contributed to society since leaving the college.
Renkwitz, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in both physical education and education, was a member of the Green Terror football, tennis and track and field teams.
As an offensive and defensive interior lineman on the football team, he lettered all four years and received honorable mentions in the Mason-Dixon and Middle-Atlantic Conferences, as well as was an All-Maryland Selection. He was a member of two conference champion teams in 1962 and 1963 and was elected co-captain in 1964.
He also participated and lettered all four years as a member of the track and field team and played tennis as a junior and senior, lettering his junior year.
Now a retired Cambridge-South Dorchester High School teacher, Renkwitz taught science and ethics for 48 years and served as science department chair from 1976 to 1995. He also worked for the Maryland State Department of Education on several science and technology curriculum projects. In 1990, he was recognized as one of Maryland’s outstanding teachers and was named Dorchester County’s computer teacher of the year in 1995. He earned a Master of Education degree from Salisbury State University in 1998.
Currently, he directs the Socrates Café weekly philosophy discussion group. He and his wife also started a reading initiative where they read to children once per week and distribute free books at the Walmart in Cambridge, Md.
