Martin K. P. Hill has served on the College’s Board of Trustees since 1993 and as Chairman since 2007, and was named an honorary alumnus of McDaniel College in 2015.
As an active member of the McDaniel Board, he has been instrumental in changing the landscape of the College. With his guidance, every academic building on campus has been renovated, including Hill Hall rededicated in 1995 in his honor and most recently, the Gill Physical Education Learning Center in 2018. Two new academic halls, Eaton Hall and Merritt Hall, were constructed, as well as the North Village residential apartments, Merritt Fitness Center and Kenneth R. Gill Stadium.
He chaired the College’s comprehensive fundraising campaign in 1994 giving a pacesetting gift of $1.5 million to launch the campaign’s public phase and worked tirelessly to recruit and mentor other leaders to join McDaniel’s efforts. Simultaneously, he served as chair of the Buildings and Grounds committee and led the Board’s approval of a 10-year campus master plan that provided a blueprint of building projects to support the College’s mission and growth.
A second seven-figure gift during the Carpe Diem Campaign endowed a faculty chair in Economics and Business Administration in honor of longtime McDaniel faculty member and administrator Ethan Seidel.
Hill began his relationship with McDaniel in 1990 when his daughter, Jennifer Hill Bubczyk ’93, transferred to the College. As a parent, he volunteered in Admissions and with a student group that launched a campus-wide recycling project. He joined the Parents Board and, shortly thereafter, became chair of the Parents Fund and initiated challenge grants in 1991 and 1993 for senior class gifts to the Annual Fund. He and his family also participate annually in the Carroll County Student Grant Program, which offers a grant to every Carroll County student enrolling at McDaniel.
He was recognized as an Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Maryland chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2006 and received the Community Foundation of Carroll County’s Legacy Award for Philanthropy in 2011. Hill was honored by the Baltimore Business Journal as an “Outstanding Director” in 2013.
In addition to McDaniel, he serves on the board of the Carroll Hospital Center and was a member of the corporate board of the YMCA of Central Maryland. He is currently on the community advisory board for the Hill YMCA in Westminster, Md. Hill is president of Woodhaven Building and Development, Inc.
