Homecoming 2018
McDaniel alumni, families and friends celebrated Homecoming 2018 with class reunions, alumni awards and Sports Hall of Fame inductions, family activities and cheering for the Green Terror while tailgating at Gill Stadium.
Now combined with Families Weekend, the events Oct. 5-6 featured opportunities for families to reconnect with their favorite McDaniel students and experience student life on campus while alumni applauded successes at the Alumni Association Awards and Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame banquet. Also gathering for reunions with classmates were the classes of 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008.
The 2018 Homecoming royalty announced during pre-game festivities are senior highness Samnetta Nah ’19 of Baltimore and Jedediah Fowler ’19 of Annapolis, Md.; junior majesty Onesha Smith ’20 of Baltimore and Kris Murphy ’20 of Columbia, Md.; sophomore royalty Delaney Ford ’21 of Burtonsville, Md., and Nate Alston ’21 of Catonsville, Md., and Elva Joya ’22 of Rockville, Md., and Nashanti Harris ’22 of Baltimore. Top grades, leadership, community service and involvement in campus organizations and athletics earned Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity the coveted Brant Memorial Cup.
Phi Alpha Mu won the prize for best letters on the Hill with their depiction of Betty Boop, the cartoon character who became a symbol of the 1920s, the same decade the sorority was founded. Alumni of Green Terror men’s soccer gathered to celebrate the life of the late Homer Earll ’50, former soccer coach, and lined up to cheer on current players as they took to the field.
The Alumni Association Awards and Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame banquet on Oct. 5 honored alumni who personify the College’s tradition of excellence. 2018 Alumna of the Year Deborah Lanius Cameron ’75 and Young Alumni awardee Adam C. Pritchard ’09 were recognized during the banquet. Also, Ginny Merryman ’76 was honored for Alumni Community Service and Alex Ober ’63, M.Ed. ’69 was recognized for Alumni College Service. Randy Day ’77 and Nicki Pesik ’86 received Alumni Professional Achievement awards.
The 2018 inductees into the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame are Brent Fuchs ’00, Jeff Groff ’01, Fred Kiemle ’72, Carol Morelock Patterson ’66, Art Renkwitz ’65 and January Scott Vaughan ’99.
