Sex Discrimination, including Title IX, Resources and Information

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. and its implementing regulations, 34 C.F.R. Part 106, McDaniel College does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX and its regulations, including in admissions and employment. Anyone who believes that they have experienced or witnessed an incident of any type of conduct that reasonably may constitute sex discrimination under Title IX may report the incident to the Title IX Coordinator or one of the Title IX Officers (listed in the Policy)

Reports can be made to the Title IX coordinator at any time -- including during non-business hours – in person, or by calling the listed telephone number (410-857-2205) or emailing (etowle@mcdaniel.edu), or via mail by writing to Title IX Coordinator, McDaniel College Department of Human Resources, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157 or by any other means that results in the Title IX Coordinator receiving your verbal or written report.

The Title IX Coordinator is available to meet with individuals to discuss the policy, the grievance procedures, supportive and interim measures, accessing medical attention, academic accommodations, confidential counseling resources, and any other questions related to McDaniel’s response to sex discrimination. Anyone in the College community who is approached by someone claiming to have experienced or witnessed an incident of any type of conduct that reasonably may constitute sex discrimination is encouraged to direct or accompany that person to meet with the Title IX Coordinator or to make a report themselves.

The College’s Title IX Coordinator works to ensure that McDaniel’s programs and classrooms are accessible to all pregnant and/or parenting students. This includes students experiencing any pregnancy-related condition for which they may need accommodations, including pregnancy, false pregnancy, fertility treatments, and medical conditions related to childbirth, miscarriage or termination of pregnancy or recovery from any of these conditions. As part of the College’s obligation under Title IX, the Coordinator ensures reasonable modifications, for students experiencing pregnancy, any pregnancy-related conditions or parenting, that allow them to fully participate in their academic program.

The College is committed to preserving an educational and employment environment that is free from sex discrimination, including but not limited to sex-based harassment and discrimination based on sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, gender identity, and parental, family, or marital status. All reports of alleged violations of this policy will be handled in accordance with this policy, other College policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations, including Title IX, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Clery Act, and the and Maryland Education Code § 11-601.

Inquiries about Title IX may be referred to the College’s Title IX Coordinator, Elizabeth Towle, to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights at: http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/index.html, or both.
