Linda L. Singh, military and business leader

Military and business leader Linda L. Singh serves as the speaker for the undergraduate ceremony. The first African American and first woman Adjutant General (retired) of the Maryland National Guard, she is the founder of Kaleidoscope Affect LLC, a firm providing leadership development, management consulting, and strategic advisory services.

Linda L. Singh is a military and business figure whose career is a testament to her leadership, innovation, and dedication. 

Dr. Singh became the first African American and first woman to lead the Maryland National Guard as the 29th adjutant general in 2015. She retired in 2019 after over 38 years, serving as both enlisted and officer, achieving the rank of Major General. 

During her tenure, she served in multiple overseas combat deployments, playing a critical role in international relations while working with senior officials in Estonia and Bosnia under the Department of Defense State Partnership Program, and guided major policy matters and strategic aspects of military readiness on the Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee.

In addition to her military career, she has held various senior executive-level positions spanning the health, defense, and state and local government sectors. She led business operations for 21 years for Accenture’s Health and Public Service North America operating unit and founded Kaleidoscope Affect LLC, a firm providing leadership development, management consulting, and strategic advisory services. In 2020, she was named interim executive director and CEO of TEDCO, Maryland's economic engine for technology companies, and was the inaugural leader-in-residence at Towson University. 

Dr. Singh, who has a bachelor’s degree in Business, a master’s in Business Administration and in Strategic Studies, and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, holds various professional certifications and sits on numerous boards. Her accolades include the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and she has been inducted into the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame and the Army Women’s Foundation Hall of Fame. 

She is also the author of the Amazon bestseller, “Moments of Choice: My Path to Leadership,” a memoir about how she rose from humble beginnings and hardship, enduring abuse and homelessness, to positions of leadership, and “What’s in Your Box? Designing the Life You Want,” which challenges others to be open-minded to accomplish success and design the life they want.
