Alumni athletes appointed to serve as members of the Green & Gold Committee
The Green & Gold Committee works with alumni athletes in support and promotion of McDaniel’s athletic programs, sponsors and promotes events for athletes, such as networking and celebrations for current or prior team successes and expands awareness of and support for McDaniel College and its programs.
Alumni athletes have been appointed to serve as members of the Green & Gold Committee for the Alumni Council.

Kristin Ramey '05, M.S. '08
Chair of the Green & Gold Committee
Ramey, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science (now Kinesiology) and a minor in Business Administration and earned a master’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology), is head coach for McDaniel's women's lacrosse team.
Suzy Banister '17
Field Hockey
Suzy Banister graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art Communication in 2017 and during her time at McDaniel, she played on the field hockey team. Banister volunteers for Teach for America, AmeriCorps.
Stephanie McPherson Powell '03
Basketball, Track
Stephanie McPherson Powell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2003. During her time at McDaniel, McPherson Powell played on the basketball and track teams. She was named track champion in 1999 and 2002 and was named to the women’s basketball championship team in 2001. McPherson Powell works as a registered nurse at Sinai Hospital.
Justin Arter '20
Tennis
Justin Arter graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 2020 and during his time at McDaniel, he played on the tennis team. He has been employed as an Investment Specialist at Merrill Edge.
Julie Backof Boden '98
Softball
Julie Backof Boden graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1998. Backof Boden played on the soccer, basketball, and softball teams. She was named Player of the Year (softball) in 1997 and 1998 and was named to the Academic All-America team and the All-America Team in 1997 and 1998. She was inducted into the Green Terror Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Centennial Conference Silver Anniversary Team in 2018.
Jessica Rouse Custer '02, M.S. '07
Volleyball
Jessica Rouse Custer graduated with both a bachelor’s degree in 2002 and master’s degree in 2007 in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology). During her time at McDaniel, Rouse Custer played on the volleyball team and was named to the volleyball championship team in 1999.
Matt Cahill '10, M.S. '12
Football
Matt Cahill graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2010 and a master’s degree in 2012, both in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology). During his time at McDaniel, Cahill played on the football team. He currently works as an assistant football coach and physical education teacher at Westminster High School.
Lindsey Farrell '19
Lacrosse, Soccer
Lindsey Farrell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication in 2019. During her time at McDaniel, she played on the lacrosse and soccer teams. Farrell works as a marketing content specialist for ArmadaCare in Cockeysville, Maryland.
Brett Foelber '08
Basketball
Brett Foelber graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication in 2008. During his time at McDaniel, Foelber played on the basketball team. Foelber works as the director of marketing at St. John Properties. He volunteers with First Tee of Greater Baltimore as a Young Professionals Board Member and as a volunteer leader at LifePoint Church’s Help for Uniquely Gifted Souls program.
Natasha Young Herbert '06, M.S. '07
Track and Field
Natasha Young Herbert graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2006 and a master’s degree in Counselor Education in 2007. During her time at McDaniel, she ran on the track team. Young Herbert currently works as a substance abuse counselor in Baltimore.
KR Schultz '10
Lacrosse
Schultz graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication in 2010. Schultz, who works as a lacrosse coach at Catonsville High School, played on the lacrosse team at McDaniel.
Kelsey Franklin Goretsas '12
Basketball
Kelsey Franklin Goretsas graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology) in 2012. During her time at McDaniel, Franklin Goretsas played on the basketball team and was named to the women’s basketball championship team in 2010. She currently works as a Manager and Personal Trainer at Fitness Together.
Bob Laffey '03
Baseball
Bob Laffey graduated from McDaniel with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2003. Laffey played on the Green Terror baseball team during his time at McDaniel and now works as the head baseball coach for the Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland.
Jim Heilman '17
Cross Country, Track
Jim Heilman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology) in 2017. During his time at McDaniel, Heilman played on the cross country and track teams. Heilman currently works as a graduate teaching assistant at University of Maryland.
Kelsey Kirkman '19
Golf
Kelsey Kirkman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2019 and during her time as an undergraduate at McDaniel, she played on the golf team. Kirkman works as an admissions counselor at McDaniel College.
Kevin Keane '20
Golf
Kevin Keane graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2020 and during his time at McDaniel, Keane played on the golf team. Keane works as a senior research analyst with The Lewin Group in Falls Church, Virginia.
Tom Lapato '99
Football
Tom Lapato graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Math and Computer Science in 1999. In addition to his degree from McDaniel, Lapato obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University. Lapato was a record-setter on the Green Terror football team and was named all-time captain in 1997 and 1998. He currently serves as vice president of Enterprise Resource Performance, Inc. (ERPi), where he provides consulting services to federal agencies with a focus on performance improvement in health, technology, and defense.
Elise O'Meara Merlo '14

O’Meara Merlo graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2014. During her time at McDaniel, O’Meara Merlo played on the tennis team. O’Meara Merlo works as the director of recruitment at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Kelly Novak '20

Kelly Novak earned a bachelor’s degree from McDaniel in Student-Designed Meteorology in 2020 and during her time at McDaniel, Novak played on the lacrosse team. Novak works as a lead teaching assistant at Florida State University.

Rutherford graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2020. During her time at McDaniel, Rutherford played on the tennis team. Rutherford works as a resident director at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Tyler Naunton '17
Soccer
Tyler Naunton graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education (now Kinesiology). Naunton played on the soccer team at McDaniel. Naunton currently works in marketing and sales at Ripken Baseball.
Teron Powell '02
Football, Basketball, Track
Teron Powell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2002. As an undergraduate at McDaniel, Powell competed in four sports, football, basketball, and indoor and outdoor track and field. He was inducted into the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Powell works as an executive director at Silverman Treatment Solutions in Columbia, Maryland.

Duesterhaus Whitehill graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Studies in 2014. During her time at McDaniel, Duesterhaus Whitehill was a member of the swim team.
