    Theatre Arts major in the spotlight for lighting design

    “There is a beauty to stage lighting — it’s a work of art. The time and effort that goes into it is very inspirational,” says Kim Parson, junior Theatre Arts major, who was awarded a 2022 Collier Robert Woods, Jr. Scholarship to support her pursuits in lighting design.

    While making compounds and refining solutions, McDaniel students learn to define the role of the chemist — and find it to be limitless. Supported by Chemistry faculty in classrooms and research labs, students prepare for fulfilling careers in the sciences.

    McDaniel College introduces new environmental center

    McDaniel College hosted the official unveiling of the McDaniel Environmental Center, an outdoor learning lab developed by students to engage in hands-on educational opportunities in agriculture, conservation, and environmental sciences, as well as community building. Additionally, McDaniel has received $2.3 million from the State of Maryland to fund educational environmental spaces and the college has introduced a new bachelor's degree in Food Studies this fall.

    Discovering leadership abroad in Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic

    What does it mean to become a leader? How do you best practice citizenship in the world? Students in Leadership Across Cultures found out when they traveled to Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic to grow their identities in rich cultural settings (with plenty of scenic vistas). The study abroad trip was offered by the Office of Student Engagement as part of the Excellence in Leadership program.

    Class of 2026 connects with the community at McDaniel Local

    Incoming first-year students got involved in a variety of community service opportunities in the Westminster, Maryland, community during McDaniel Local 2022. They helped out at the McDaniel Environmental Center, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Westminster City’s Recreation and Parks Department, and the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster.

    Machine learning research prepares Computer Science majors for competitive careers

    During Student-Faculty Summer Research with Computer Science and Mathematics professors Ting Zhang and Paul Lin, six Computer Science majors used machine learning techniques to create computer models that work in ways similar to the human mind.
