    McDaniel celebrates 153rd Commencement on Saturday, May 20

    McDaniel College celebrates its 153rd Commencement for the Class of 2023 on Saturday, May 20. The graduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies take place in the college’s Gill Center. A live stream of both ceremonies will also be available online at www.mcdaniel.edu/commencement.

    McDaniel College graduates the Class of 2022

    Among family and friends, 297 bachelor’s candidates crossed the stage to receive their degrees on May 21 during McDaniel College’s 152nd Commencement ceremony. Author and social entrepreneur Michelle Poler addressed the graduating class, encouraging them to face their fears and move toward happiness rather than comfort, and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters was conferred on Jeff Rosenberg, former director of NPR Worldwide.

    Ridington and Argonaut awards presented at Commencement

    English major Rebecca H Halaney and Physics major Kaitlyn Marie Bowser were honored with The Edith Farr Ridington Writing Award for writing the best senior papers. Five undergraduates were tied for the highest cumulative GPA and were recipients of the Argonaut Award: Jessia Marie Avila, Kaitlyn Marie Bowser, Kaitlyn Nicole Holstein, Jonah Warman Ruskin, and Cara E Woolston.

    Faculty earn top teaching awards

    Three McDaniel professors have earned awards for their dedication to teaching and scholarship, awarded at McDaniel's 152nd Commencement ceremony. The awards are: the Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award, Ira G. Zepp Teaching Enhancement Grant, and the Shelton Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.

    Master’s students earn degrees at 152nd Commencement

    At McDaniel’s 2022 Graduate Commencement ceremony, 209 students celebrated the achievement of earning their master’s degrees, conferred from 19 programs. Keynote speaker and honorary Doctor of Journalism recipient Dan Rodricks, a long-time columnist for the Baltimore Sun, encouraged them to move forward with courageous values.

    Bates Prize and Mary Ward Lewis Prize awarded at Senior Investiture and Honors Convocation

    Jessia Marie Avila, a Political Science and Marketing major, received The Mary Ward Lewis Prize as the outstanding female member of the graduating class, while Andrew Gabriel Witten, Business Administration major, was awarded The Bates Prize for the outstanding male graduating senior.

    Class of 2022 seniors honored with academic, activity, and leadership awards

    On the eve of their graduation, McDaniel College seniors in the Class of 2022 were honored with academic, activity, and leadership awards. Prior to the event, the graduating seniors were led by McDaniel President Julia Jasken through Ward Memorial Arch.

    Six ROTC cadets commissioned as Army officers

    Six McDaniel graduating seniors, who served as members of the Green Terror Battalion, received commissions as Army officers on May 20. The keynote speaker for the ceremony was Maj. Gen. Antonio V. Munera, commanding general of the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
