    A few short weeks after being named the League of United Latin American Citizens’ (LULAC) National Woman of the Year, senior Jasmin Chavez received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study Spanish literature at the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca in Mexico.

    Samantha Wilson, a senior at McDaniel College, has been named a Fulbright finalist for an English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) in the West African nation of Côte d'Ivoire or Ivory Coast. Wilson of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., is a double major in French and Political Science with a specialization in International Studies.

    McDaniel senior William Martin of Winchester, Va., took top prize of $10,000 April 9 at the Innovation Challenge finals for Stylish Thrift, which provides reasonably priced new and vintage sportswear online, giving everyone the opportunity to support their team and show their style without sacrificing quality.

    U.S. Mint internship is priceless experience

    Before Valerie Lamb ’18 reported to work for her summer internship, she knew little about the U.S. Mint or its Heritage Assets Program. The Miami native had never lived in Washington, D.C., nor learned to navigate its metro system. She was uncertain if she would like the work and nervous about managing life in the city. But Lamb, a Political Science & International Studies major with an Acting minor, recognized the valuable opportunity and seized it.
