    Political Science professor recognized as Boehlke Fellow

    Political Science Professor Christianna Nichols Leahy was selected as the 2023 Charles A. Boehlke, Jr., Engaged Faculty Fellow. The Charles A. Boehlke, Jr., Engaged Faculty Fellows Award was established with a gift from Charles A. Boehlke, Jr., a 1978 alumnus of the college and current member of the McDaniel Board of Trustees.

    Education graduates recognized as rising stars

    Eight graduates who majored in Elementary Education or minored in PreK-12 or Secondary Education were recognized as rising stars in education. Kate Cramer, Emma Lindell, Brittany Mitchell, Jessica Raver, Carlena Sheeto, Heather Shockley, and Jada Stump were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education, while Carly Ludwig was selected as a 2023 Distinguished Teacher Candidate by the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE).

    McDaniel College announces Spring 2023 dean's list

    McDaniel College announces its Spring 2023 dean's list, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.

    McDaniel College earns Military Friendly® Schools silver designation

    In honor of Military Appreciation Month, McDaniel has been recognized among the nation’s top schools doing the most for military veterans and their families for the 14th consecutive year. McDaniel is also among the schools that earned the Military Friendly® Silver Award for scoring within 30% of the top 10 schools.

    Faculty earn top undergraduate teaching awards

    Two McDaniel professors have earned awards for their dedication to teaching and scholarship, awarded at McDaniel’s 153rd Commencement ceremony. The awards are the Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award and the Ira G. Zepp Teaching Enhancement Grant.

    Ridington and Argonaut awards presented at Class of 2023 Commencement

    History major Stephanie A. Eckard was honored with The Edith Farr Ridington Writing Award for writing the best senior paper. Six undergraduates were tied for the highest cumulative GPA and were recipients of the Argonaut Award: Kate Rebecca Cramer, Evan J. Darr, Kyra M. Greenfield, Lyra Juliet Houghton, Grace Elizabeth Maglietta, and Eleanor Vivienne Tomkins.

    Master’s students earn degrees at 153rd Commencement

    At McDaniel’s 2023 Graduate Commencement Ceremony, 281 students celebrated the achievement of earning their master’s degrees, conferred from 19 programs. Keynote speaker Sharon Love M.S. '76, founder of the One Love Foundation, shared the value of recognizing inner resiliency.

    Student and faculty awards presented at Graduate Commencement

    Three special awards were presented during the May 20 Graduate Commencement ceremony. Two student awards were given to master’s degree recipients in McDaniel’s Reading Specialist: Literacy Leadership and Deaf Education programs, while a faculty award was presented to an online adjunct lecturer in the School Librarianship program.

    On the eve of their graduation, McDaniel College seniors in the Class of 2023 were honored with academic, activity, and leadership awards. Prior to the event, the graduating seniors took part in the Arch Processional led by McDaniel President Julia Jasken.

    Bates Prize and Mary Ward Lewis Prize awarded at Senior Investiture and Honors Convocation

    Stephani Xiomara Portillo Ordoñez, a Self-Designed French Studies major and Political Science major specializing in International Studies, received The Mary Ward Lewis Prize, while Psychology major Dylan Elroy Hughes was awarded The Bates Prize. Both represent outstanding members of the graduating class.
