It's never too late to find your home on the Hill feature story in the summer 2021 issue of  The Hill
As President Julia Jasken took office, a new diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) committee was formed on our Alumni Council. We wanted to highlight the alum who stepped up to lead this initiative — James A. Felton III ’95, M.S. ’98. Now a nationally recognized expert in DEI in higher education, his realization that it wasn’t too late for him to find his home on the Hill as a Black alum in what was historically a predominantly white-majority campus was worth sharing with all of our alumni.

The man with a plan...and a plan B story and video package from the spring 2021 issue of  The Hill
When we learned an alum, Mike McKelvin ’88, had opened a new brewery locally just three weeks before COVID-19 lockdowns began, we knew it was a story we needed to tell. After interviewing him for the magazine article, it was clear that the brewery and the alum’s personality would shine on video, too.

Homecoming 2021 Invitation
Our Homecoming 2021 invitation needed to make a big impact, since the events were in person after a virtual 2020. We wanted to ignite a sense of nostalgia and familiarity for our alumni, even if campus had changed since their last visit. To tie Homecoming 2021 back to the more than 150-year history of the college, a spinning wheel in the cover shows both the Green Terror over the years and parts of our beautiful campus.

Who We Are 2021
Our annual Who We Are publication is a timeless showcase of new faculty. Bold and bright, it shares Q&A answers alongside faculty photos to feature the educators who support McDaniel’s mission every day.
Faculty featured in this edition include Gerard Keubeung, Shana Jung Ah Joslyn, Jessica L. Ford, Ben Smith, Margaret Christie, and Diane L. Williams. Also featured are Eric Simon, vice president for administration and finance, and Adam Hertz, director of athletics.

2021 season’s greetings card and video
To promote the new McDaniel Environmental Center (MEC), we created a sustainable snowflake ornament to pair with the president’s seasonal winter greeting card and video. The laser-cut snowflake keepsake is made of Forest Stewardship Council® certified stock. Forest imagery on the ornament mimics designs on trail signage installed at the MEC. The back includes an in-depth explanation of symbols comprising the snowflake, including a key to the iconography inspired by the nature in our locale: American goldfinch, timothy grass, serviceberries, oak leaf, and eastern blacknose dace.
Rooted in sustainability efforts, the MEC was developed by students and for students to engage in hands-on learning opportunities. Its fields, forests, meadows, wetlands, and stream provide natural settings for community-building and education in agriculture, conservation, and environmental sciences.
