Lt. Col. John Holter '61 receives Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame Award
LT. COL. JOHN HOLTER RECEIVES GREEN TERROR SPORTS HALL OF FAME AWARD FROM McDANIEL COLLEGE

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lt. Col. John Holter of Dade City, Fla., is a recipient of the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award from McDaniel College. He is a 1961 alumnus of the college with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Presented annually during McDaniel’s Homecoming, the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award is presented to a graduate and former athlete who has performed outstandingly as an undergraduate athlete and who has contributed to society since leaving the college.
Lt. Col. John Holter retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and throughout his career, he was awarded, among many other medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with V-Device and the Air Medal with 16 Oak Leaf Clusters.
A ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate, he would go on to become Airborne Ranger qualified, a Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing Aviator flying combat missions in Vietnam.
At the college, he played football, basketball and golf, ran track and was a member of the rifle team, earning 15 varsity letters. In golf, he finished first in conference tourneys. In football, he was a halfback and safety who helped his team win the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championship in 1960. He received the John Alexander Outstanding Athlete Medal for the class of 1961.
He has coached youth baseball and football, and for nearly 30 years was a high school football referee with the Northern Virginia Football Officials Association (NVFOA).
