McDaniel College Students Presented at Conference on the Muslim World
McDANIEL COLLEGE STUDENTS PRESENTED AT CONFERENCE ON THE MUSLIM WORLD
Fifth Annual Conference was Sept. 18–20 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Three McDaniel College students were selected to present at the fifth annual Conference on the Muslim World held Sept. 18–20 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The students traveled to the conference with Francis Grice, assistant professor of political science and international studies at McDaniel. All were chosen to present academic papers at the conference.
Students were:
- Navagaye Simpson, a junior from Silver Spring, Md. Simpson's paper was titled "A Closer Look at the Muslim Population in Japan."
- Christopher Shatzer, a junior from Taneytown, Md. Shatzer's paper was titled "Debating Democracy, Debating Pancasila: Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates and Radicals in the Arena of Indonesian Mass Organizations."
- Samantha Wilson, a senior from Sedro-Woolley, Wash. Wilson's paper was titled "The Ivory Coast and Democratic Consolidation in the Northern Regions."
The conference, hosted by the Universitas Gadjah Mada, was themed “Democracy and the Muslim Society.”
The objective of the annual conference is to bring together academics of all backgrounds from different regions around the world including top undergraduate and graduate students, as well as leading faculty, to join in discussion topics concerning the Muslim world.
