From Liz Towle, Dean of Students

Greetings, everyone, as we head into week two of remote work! My own realization this week is I need to hone my time management skills. For years I have taken for granted that my weekday schedule has been created for me at least between 8:30am – 5:30pm. It has been filled by meetings (some that I schedule, others that I am invited to) and in-between I answer emails, phone calls, etc. Like you, I am now working from home and I need to create my own daily schedule.

Do I stay up until 1:00 am watching Ozark Season 3 or do I go to sleep? Do I get up at the same time every day and exercise? How much diet coke is too much diet coke? All this to say that as we all navigate some challenges, I hope you are also experiencing some new successes!

Personally, this week I am going to try some of the mindfulness tips included in the newsletter, from the Wellness Center folks. Thanks to them and everyone who contributed below!

Stay well!

Notes from the Wellness Center

The Wellness Center team cares deeply about you, your physical and mental health and how you are protecting yourself from exposure to Coronavirus. Even if you are a healthy individual with a typically strong immune system, you can become extremely ill if you are infected with Coronavirus. Although high risk populations have been clearly identified, there are a growing number of young, healthy people with no underlying medical issues who are being hospitalized from this illness. Please try to remain positive and know that this will not last forever.......in the future you will be telling the story of your experience as you lived through this pandemic.

Mindfulness

As our comings and goings have abruptly halted, we are given an opportunity to slow down our mind as well. Sit for 5 minutes in a comfortable spot and let your only “task” during that time be to pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and surrounding environment. Do not judge them- just experience them. Click here to learn how to create a home retreat.

Work together for a safe campus

The Department of Campus Safety continues to maintain the safety and security of the campus during this time of distance learning!  Campus Safety’s dispatch center continues to be a resource for the community. We encourage all students to know and understand the social distancing requirements and stay home. If you have any concerns, contact 410-857-2202.
