Newest Dorsey Scholars named at McDaniel

McDaniel College’s Admissions Office surprised five incoming Class of 2024 students by announcing them as the College’s newest Dorsey Scholars. The Dorsey Scholars Program is the highest academic honor at McDaniel and includes full tuition, room and board for all four years.

Daniel Adum, a senior at McLean High School in Potomac, Md., is involved in athletics, performing arts and student leadership. A state record holder in wrestling, he participates with his school’s government association and also dresses up as the McLean Mustang mascot

McDaniel College’s Admissions Office surprised five incoming Class of 2024 students by announcing them as the College’s newest Dorsey Scholars.  

The highest academic honor at McDaniel, students selected for the Dorsey Scholars Program receive full tuition, room and board for all four years at the College. Students are chosen from the Honors applicant pool. 

Dorsey Scholars are academic leaders and role models on campus. They also have distinctive opportunities, including serving as ambassadors of the College.  

The Dorsey Scholars Program is supported by a $6.7 million estate gift from 1891 alumnus Philip Henry Dorsey, the largest bequest for scholarships in McDaniel’s history.

Daniel Adum

Daniel Adum, a senior at McLean High School in Potomac, Md., is involved in athletics, performing arts and student leadership. A state record holder in wrestling, he participates with his school’s government association and also dresses up as the McLean Mustang mascot. 

Rachel Allen

Rachel Allen, a senior at Gaithersburg, Md., High School, is a champion of gender equality, specifically changing the way society views women in STEM fields. She has served as co-editor-in-chief of her school's newspaper and is president of the mock trial team, as well as involved in Girl Scouts. 

Haley Arnold

Haley Arnold, a senior at Maurice J. McDonough High School in Pomfret, Md., is a student leader who is the founder and president of her school’s mental health group. She also volunteers assisting children with special needs. She is a violinist and has played softball for her high school team.  

Sergio Martin Garcia

Sergio Martin Garcia, a senior at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda, Calif., is a soccer student-athlete. He is a member of the creative writing club and a student ambassador at his high school. He has also volunteered with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and interned with Charity First through Achieve.  

Signé Kula

Signé Kula, a senior at Oyster River High School in Durham, N.H., is a nationally ranked triathlete, as well as involved with her school’s swim team and as a member of the Student Athletic Leadership team. She also built her own business, Paws for a Cause.
