Online Graduate program in Innovations in Teaching and Learning to launch Fall 2020

McDaniel College is launching a Master of Science degree in Innovations in Teaching and Learning beginning Fall 2020. This program is being offered completely online to provide flexible scheduling and convenience to working educators. Innovations in Teaching and Learning, formerly Curriculum and Instruction, develops master teachers, as well as addresses current classroom trends and challenges.

McDaniel College is launching a Master of Science degree in Innovations in Teaching and Learning beginning Fall 2020. The program is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Innovations in Teaching and Learning, formerly Curriculum and Instruction, is also being offered completely online to provide flexible scheduling and convenience to working educators not only who are living and teaching in Maryland, but also throughout the region and nationwide. The program is particularly suitable for educators in PreK–12 schools.

The mission of the master’s degree in Innovations in Teaching and Learning addresses current classroom challenges and instructional trends in the PreK–12 environment. The revised program offers a greater emphasis on developing master teachers. The program continues to be responsive to changing trends and issues in education.

According to Margaret Pfaff, program coordinator for Innovations in Teaching and Learning, “Relevant problem-based and integrated learning forms the foundation of the program as candidates tackle relevant classroom challenges and apply course content to find innovative solutions.”

She said, “We have taken our most popular graduate program in Curriculum and Instruction and revised it to make it even more relevant to today’s teachers. We want this program to empower educators to become transformative teacher leaders within their schools and ensure that they are able to respond to today’s educational environment.”

The program requires 33 credits for completion. Courses in the program are tailored to specific topics, such as brain-based teaching and learning, social and emotional learning, instructional technology, teaching diverse populations, among others.

Additionally, students have the option to complete their Administrator I Certification simultaneously by choosing to embed required courses from that program into their coursework for the Innovations in Teaching and Learning master’s degree.
