“Urinetown, The Musical” is a musical satire of corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
Fouché notes that the show “is a perfect example of Epic Theatre, best known by the works of Bertolt Brecht.” She said, “‘Urinetown’ also pays homage to the American Musical, with Easter eggs throughout for those aficionados in the audience. It's fun, boisterous, full of opportunity for comedy ‘bits’ and physical techniques, which is why I was drawn to the play and thought it would be a rich experience for our theatre students.”
