McDaniel College Theatre presents “Out of Time,” a devised theatre production, April 20 through April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall. The production is a creation of the Theatre Arts department’s Devised Theatre class. The performance is the world premiere of an original ensemble-devised work utilizing various methods of storytelling. The exciting and experimental effort is entirely shaped by McDaniel students under the guidance of Theatre Arts faculty member Gené Fouché

Of this year’s production, Fouché says, “Something old, something new and everything in between. We have drawn inspiration from the world of antiques and vintage clothing and this piece explores relics from the past through a contemporary lens.

“Devised shows are as much about the journey of the creators than the product - although you always want to create a positive experience for the audience. We started by exploring a consignment shop and asked questions about what old objects or outdated practices bring up for us, and how nostalgia shapes our lives," she says.

The Devised Theatre course is a collaborative, group-oriented approach to theatre-making. During this course, McDaniel students develop a unique theatre piece using various creation techniques, including composition, viewpoints, improvisation, found text, adaptation, and group writing.
