Zombies, sea critters, cooking and more: It’s time again for Summer Science Academy
Summer Science Academy gives high school students the opportunity to earn $40,000 scholarships to McDaniel while delving into the science of cooking, the environment, forensics, marine life, heart health and even a zombie apocalypse.
Summer Science Academy (SSA), one of several dozen summer programs at McDaniel, offers three weeklong sessions, each with three different courses to choose from. Students who complete at least one weeklong course prior to being admitted to McDaniel receive a guaranteed $40,000 — $10,000 per year — scholarship to the College.
It’s a win-win exploration for the ninth- through 12th-graders, who may either commute or stay on campus in residence halls. The days are filled with lab time, discussions and field trips while evenings, open to both resident and commuting students, feature speakers, movies, games and swimming at McDaniel’s indoor pool.
Students come from across the country — and this year three students will travel from Pakistan and Ethiopia for the program, according to McDaniel Physics professor Jeffrey Marx. Sessions are open on a first-come first-served basis through online registration only.
