The Holistic Immersive Learning Model: Your Path to Diverse Opportunities

Explore the four key components of our Holistic Immersive Learning Model: hybrid learning, face-to-face instruction, community-based engagement (on and off campus), and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Join the Future of Occupational Therapy at McDaniel

Are you ready to transform the way you learn, practice, and lead as an occupational therapist? At McDaniel College, our developing Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (M.S.O.T.) program offers a transformative learning experience designed to create innovative leaders, ethical practitioners, and advocates for change across diverse practice settings. Through our cutting-edge Holistic Immersive Learning Model, you’ll gain the skills and experience necessary to thrive in traditional and emerging occupational therapy (OT) fields, wherever your career takes you — whether it’s hospitals, schools, community centers, or pioneering new practice areas.

Our Holistic Immersive Learning Model

Our unique Holistic Immersive Learning Model integrates four key components: hybrid learning, face-to-face instruction, community-based engagement (on and off campus), and interdisciplinary collaboration — to provide a comprehensive, occupation-centered educational experience. This model prepares you to apply your skills in a variety of real-world practice settings, from health care institutions and school-based practice to emerging areas like telehealth, community wellness, and mental health support.

Hybrid Learning

Experience the best of both worlds with our structured hybrid model, where the first of two years are spent on campus. You’ll engage with essential OT knowledge, theory, and evidence-based research through interactive digital platforms that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making. This hybrid approach ensures that you stay connected with faculty and peers while enhancing your understanding of OT concepts.

Face-to-Face Instruction

Engage in hands-on learning in a classroom environment where you’ll work closely with expert faculty and peers. This component emphasizes clinical reasoning, real-life application, and occupation-centered practice, preparing you to tackle complex challenges in a wide range of OT settings, including pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, and community settings.

Community-Based Engagement

Make a real-world impact through immersive experiences that go beyond the classroom. In addition to fieldwork in diverse settings, students will also engage in on-campus fieldwork with community partners who will visit campus for labs, camps, and clinical practice sessions. Faculty will work alongside students, guiding them in these hands-on experiences with individuals from the community. This ensures that students receive real-time mentorship and feedback as they apply their skills in therapeutic interventions and engage in occupation-centered practice. Whether assisting in community wellness initiatives or participating in hands-on therapeutic sessions, you’ll tackle real-world challenges while working with diverse populations. These partnerships expose you to a variety of practice environments, preparing you for both traditional and emerging OT settings.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

You won’t just be learning from OT professionals — you’ll be working alongside experts from fields such as education, mental health, nursing, speech-language pathology, community health, and others. This collaborative approach ensures that you gain multiple perspectives to address complex client needs, building your leadership and highlighting the importance of interprofessional collaboration in practice.
