Michele Curry-Creighton

Michele Curry-Creighton is the proud parent of Jordan, a student in the Class of 2025. Michele joined the Parent and Family Council in 2022 as a way to connect with the community that Jordan had become part of for her college career. As part of the council, Michele shared her input with the college and her experience as a McDaniel parent with incoming families. Her key advice to them? "Trust the process. Your soon-to-be college student will readily know what college feels right for them. The years will go by so quickly. You will blink and then graduation is here."

Why did your child choose McDaniel?

Jordan heard about McDaniel from a couple of high school friends who attended McDaniel, and she had heard good things about it. She likes the proximity to home, the community feel of the campus, and the great student support services.

What has made McDaniel worth the investment for your family?

Knowing that McDaniel is a community that wants your students to succeed, and they are present in helping your students succeed.

When and why did you decide to join the Parent and Family Council?

I joined the Parent and Family Council in spring 2022, when Jordan was a first-year student. My family has always believed in the importance of community service. Nothing is greater than supporting the community, since that is an important part of our child's education. I like sharing my experience as a parent of a student attending McDaniel with current and prospective parents, and I thoroughly enjoy getting to know current students.

How has the Parent and Family Council helped you be more engaged in your child’s college experience?

Having the opportunity to get to know parents and members of the McDaniel community has given me the chance to learn about the variety of experiences that Jordan has engaged in. It shows that as a parent I value Jordan’s education and gives me the opportunity to understand what McDaniel has to offer as an institution.

What have been your favorite events to attend and/or volunteer at?

  1. Parent and Family Weekend. I enjoy the communal feel of the weekend and the varied activities offered. It also gave me a chance to further get to know McDaniel from the faculty and staff’s perspectives.
  2. Admitted Student Days. I love talking about McDaniel to prospective students and parents. I get the feeling that parents want to hear about my personal experiences during Jordan’s time as a student.
  3. McDaniel’s theatre productions. I just love the theatre and the students do a great job.

What do you appreciate about the McDaniel experience from a parent perspective?

I appreciate how Jordan’s independence has grown since her first year, and I am proud to see how she has taken responsibility of her education. When she is home on break, we can see the difference in how she approaches her obligations.

What should families know about joining the McDaniel community?

The McDaniel community wants your child to succeed, and with this, the student support services are top-notch. I truly feel that Jordan is not just a number at McDaniel, which is helpful when she has challenges with her classes. The class sizes are small, which makes the faculty and administration interactions with the students personal.

When Jordan was in the process of deciding on what college to attend and we needed clarification on certain matters, the staff was readily available to answer any questions.

What’s your #1 piece of advice to parents with soon-to-be college students?

Trust the process. Your soon-to-be college student will readily know what college feels right for them. The years will go by so quickly. You will blink and then graduation is here.
