McDaniel offers 5-year programs resulting in a Master of Science in Data Analytics in the following degree programs: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, and Marketing.

McDaniel undergraduate students who decide to pursue these new degree options would apply in their junior year and would complete two graduate courses during their senior year.

Graduate School Partnership Johns Hopkins Carey Business School 4+1 Program Provides Option to earn Joint Degree

Through a collaboration with Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, McDaniel students have the opportunity to earn a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree from both institutions.

Graduate School Partnership Duquesne’s Palumbo-Donahue School of Business Preferred Admission to Four Master’s Degree Programs

McDaniel College and Duquesne University have formed a new partnership that gives McDaniel undergraduate students in the Economics and Business Administration department, as well as eligible alumni, preferred admission to four master’s degree programs at Duquesne’s Palumbo-Donahue School of Business.

Distinctive Courses

ECO 1102 - Economic Issues and Policy

Exploration of the contributions made by economic theory towards understanding and solving major policy issues of our times. The principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics are studied and applied to such timely topics as the environment, health care, international trade, the minimum wage, and a variety of similarly critical issues.

BUA 2216 - Small Business Management

An introduction to the management of a small business. The course begins by addressing macro issues, such as social responsibility, ethics, and strategic planning. The course then provides an in depth examination of the essential facets of managing a small enterprise, such as the business plan, accounting records and financial statements, small business finance, the legal environment, marketing, pricing, promotion, human resources, and operations management.

ECO 3306 - International Finance

This course provides a detailed investigation of foreign currency markets and international monetary economics. By the time you complete this course, you will be well versed in open-economy macroeconomics and able to understand and critically interpret associated contemporary policy debates. Topics to be covered include: balance of payments accounting, FX markets and various theories of exchange rate determination, the macroeconomic aspects of trade in goods and capital, open-economy macroeconomic policy, the international monetary system, and the role of international organizations like the World Bank and IMF.

BUA 4100 - Business Strategy and Policy

A capstone seminar course for Accounting Economics and Business Administration majors that relies on the case method to provide a challenging environment in which to apply knowledge acquired in the major toward developing strategies for business success. Basic building blocks such as accounting, economics, finance, and marketing, et al are integrated in an individual as well as a team approach to problem solving, policy analysis, and strategic management.

Research in Accounting

Accounting and Theatre Arts major Grace Hill wanted to pursue research as an undergraduate student, but she wasn't sure what to investigate with her unique combination of majors. With support from a faculty mentor in the 2024 Student-Faculty Summer Research Program, Hill found the perfect subject. She launched a survey study of Maryland high school theatre directors to learn about the challenges of funding their programs and to identify potential solutions, delving into the creative accounting that goes into running educational programs. 

“My personal hypothesis is that theatre programs in high schools are underfunded. I’m hoping to find that there are ways to help those programs achieve higher funding,” Hill says.

"I wanted to bring real-world perspectives into the classroom to prepare the next generation of finance professionals. Teaching allows me to contribute to their growth by bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application. I hope to inspire my students to approach problems with a strategic, analytical perspective, and to appreciate the evolving nature of the accounting profession, especially in the digital age."

Student Spotlight Class of 2023: Charess Thompson Meet a Green Terror

Charess Thompson transferred to McDaniel filled with excitement and determination. An Accounting and Business Administration major, she has all 150 credits she needs to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam — though graduate school is still on the books. Mentorship from Accounting Professor Kerry Duvall and taking part in Interviewing Day helped Charess find internships and land a full-time accounting job before graduation.
