    With GPS as the most common form of everyday navigation, cartography may seem like a lost art. But two History majors spent the summer with Associate Professor of History Qin Fang using digital tools to make centuries-old Chinese maps interactive and accessible.

    Recent Psychology graduate studies how DIII student-athletes coped with COVID

    Psychology major and women’s soccer player Lauren Murray ’22 conducted research on the coping mechanisms of Division III student-athletes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She presented her findings at the 36th Annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology Conference and McDaniel's Inaugural Academic Symposium.

    Three McDaniel professors have earned awards for their dedication to teaching and scholarship, awarded at McDaniel's 152nd Commencement ceremony. The awards are: the Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award, Ira G. Zepp Teaching Enhancement Grant, and the Shelton Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.

    Students gain hands-on experience thanks to McDaniel’s Summer Intern Fellowships

    Ten McDaniel students were awarded Summer Intern Fellowships from McDaniel’s Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) to support summer internship experiences. The program is supported, in part, by generous gifts from The Rupe-Stuart Internship Award, courtesy of McDaniel College Board of Trustee member Mark Stuart M.S. '94 and Timothy Rupe, and The Nora Roberts Foundation.

    Students make a difference through McDaniel’s Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program

    McDaniel College students strive to make a difference in the world through the Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program. Students are learning how to solve real-world problems, whether it’s restoring local wetlands that are under threat worldwide or joining in research efforts to discover drugs to treat COVID-19 following the global pandemic. The Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research experience is an eight-week program for undergraduate students at McDaniel to pursue research, which is supported by donors.

    McDaniel faculty were recognized throughout the last week of classes for the 2020-2021 academic year by Provost Julia Jasken during a Faculty Appreciation Week, coinciding with National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7).

    Four students represented McDaniel College at the Maryland Collegiate Honors Conference, “In Honors, Black Lives Matter,” held virtually on Feb. 26-27. McDaniel College Honors students Dalanda Diallo, Signe’ Kula, Maxwell Pardoe, and Raquel Sobczak were excited to have the opportunity to present at the conference and enjoyed hearing and learning of the stories and research from other presenters.

    McDaniel seniors Kaitlin Murphy and Anna Kuhn are presenting at the Entomological Society of America’s Entomology 2020 Virtual Meeting with presentations available to be viewed Nov. 11 through Nov. 25. Alumnae Jessica Wyatt ’20 and Suji Kim ’20 also participated as presenters for the event with Holly Martinson, assistant professor of Biology. The meeting features livestream sessions and symposia on Nov. 16, in addition to on-demand symposia, student competition, and 10-minute presentations, posters, and infographics.

    McDaniel College’s Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program leads to impactful virtual experiences

    More than 40 students participated in McDaniel College’s Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program. The Student-Faculty Collaborative Research experience is a 10-week program for undergraduate students at McDaniel to pursue research, which is supported by donors. Thirteen faculty members have been leading projects virtually, while two Chemistry professors received special permission to perform COVID-19 research in labs on campus.
