Leslie “Les” Michael Alperstein and Richard Klitzberg, both members of the Class of 1963, were recognized with the 2017 Trustee Alumni Award, the highest alumni honor given at McDaniel College in recognition of alumni career and service achievement.
Four McDaniel students have received prestigious Fulbright awards for the 2017–2018 academic year. Seniors Ema Barnes and Jaime Calderon and graduate students Mariah Ligas and Maggie Myers have been named Fulbright finalists for English Teaching Assistantships (ETA) to teach English in the Czech Republic, Andorra, Romania and South Korea, respectively.
Charles Boehlke's commitment of $1.825 million includes the establishment of the Charles A. Boehlke, Jr., Engaged Faculty Fellows program, which rewards faculty members for their strong mentorship and experiential-learning opportunities to students.
The McDaniel student team of Louis Schaab and Justin Arter took the top prize of $10,000 at the Innovation Challenge finals for Ride with Pride, a service to provide accessible, affordable and cool transportation for people with disabilities in Carroll County.
“It’s a Curl Thing,” a natural hair celebration conceived and organized by McDaniel juniors Kylah Chadwick and Khadijah Poston — drew more than 80 attendees, each sporting a hair style and type as unique as their DNA.
McDaniel College’s annual Global Issues Colloquium examines religious freedom with a discussion titled “Free Exercise: The Tyranny of Religious Freedom in Constitutional Democracies” led by Brad Stoddard, assistant professor of Religious Studies at McDaniel.

Va., isn’t the most popular spring break destination by any measure, but don’t tell that to the 13 McDaniel students, led by senior Jeb Shingler and professor Mona Becker, who grabbed warm clothes, solid shoes and work gloves before heading to this impoverished region of southern Appalachia for their mid-semester R&R.
