    Accounting Interviewing Day 2020 is a virtual success

    It may not have been the traditional in-person Interviewing Day that Accounting, Economics and Business Administration students have known in the past, but the first half of Interviewing Day 2020 was no less successful with nine accounting firms holding 84 virtual interviews with 31 McDaniel Accounting majors. The second half of Interviewing Day continues in the spring when other majors in the Economics and Business Administration department will have the opportunity to meet with employers for internships and jobs.

    Jocelyn Collins ’16 has been named to The Daily Record’s 2020 VIP Successful by 40 List. As Maryland and Washington Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Action Network, Collins is a lobbyist who is also an advocate. “From youth, I always loved giving back and making the world a better place,” Collins told The Daily Record.

    Whether or not you are a fan of “Because The Internet” by Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover, tune in to Spotify’s podcast Dissect, with new episodes every Tuesday for the next 11 plus weeks, for Camden Ostrander’s incisive exploration of Glover’s second studio album, film, and screenplay. The 2018 alumnus and Dorsey Scholar co-wrote the season’s 13 episodes with Dissect’s creator and host Cole Cuchna.

    Cinema professor wins Emmy award for documentary

    Jonathan Slade '88, professor of Communication & Cinema, received his seventh Emmy award for his two-hour 2019 documentary, “Made Possible By Viewers Like You: 50 Years of Maryland Public Television” at the 62nd National Capital Chesapeake Bay ceremony on Aug. 8. The program, which debuted on Maryland Public Television in August 2019, won for outstanding arts/entertainment special during the virtual event in Washington, D.C.

    Top Maryland teachers earned degrees from McDaniel

    Update as of 09.09.20: Carroll County Teacher of the Year Jena Ehmann '07, M.S. '12, has been named one of seven finalists for the 2020-21 Maryland Teacher of the Year. Two of Maryland’s top teachers are alumnae of McDaniel College. Carroll County Teacher of the Year Jena Ehmann graduated with a Student-Designed major in English Language and Literacy Acquisition and a minor in Elementary Education in 2007 and also earned a master’s degree in Reading Specialist: Literacy Leadership in 2012 and Administrator I certification in May 2020. Kent County Teacher of the Year Angel Jones Lins received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1983.

    The best part of Ashley Pritchard’s job as education coordinator at Marineland in St. Augustine, Fla. — a job that often finds her swimming in crystal clear water with playful dolphins and other marine life — is motivating young people to make a difference, however small, in the health of the planet. The 2016 Environmental Studies alumna loves teaching but her ultimate goal is to provide connections to the environment and conservation issues that result in action.

    Renamed the Roj Student Center for 1970 alumni Mary Lynn Durham and Bill Roj, who supported the project with a $5 million gift. The $11 million renovation modernizes McDaniel’s student center located in the middle of campus and is the first overall renovation of the structure since it was built in 1978.
